COMMENTARY AT THE OFFERTORY PROCESSION
In the offertory Procession today we bring the names of our founders and benefactors. These are enclosed in the special time capsule which is going to be buried in front of our church for the next 40/50 years. The capsule contains the names of the first planning group and first supporters, among them
Father Theodore Taylor Paul Foster Alfred De Freitas David Gloumeau Kathleen Hoyos Phyllis Knight Millicent Maitland John and Angela Rodrigues Joan Ross Sir Alexander (Fab) Hoyos |
Sir Alexander (Fab) Hoyos
David Borne Gertrude Del Castilho Linda and Maurice Foster Hirma Lewis Monica Springer and others ... St Dominic's was granted its name in the 80's but since the very beginning thanks to the Dominican Fathers' influence we have developed a strong devotion to Our Lady. We bring to the altar the icon of our Lady, most probably a gift from Jamaica, which we have found recently in the sacristy during our church cleaning. The framed icon will decorate our parish center. |
We bring to the altar a set of new liturgical vestments; they symbolise our care for the church, reverence for the liturgy and generosity of parishioners who have donated them.
Our generosity is represented also in the monetary offering we bring to the altar. The bread and wine necessary to celebrate the Eucharist symbolize us; we bring our gifts and ourselves so that by the power of the Holy Spirit we will be transformed into the Body of Jesus Christ. |
COMMENTARY AT THE END OF THE LITURGY
As we come to an end of our liturgy we will receive a special blessing. Like 40 years ago Bishop Anthony Dickson will cross us so that we may continue on in our mission as a Christian, Catholic Community, to bring up new generations of Catholics and citizens of this country. There won't be a future without a past. We have looked at the past today, remembering our founders and benefactors but now we look into the future. Therefore after the final blessing we will leave the church following bishop and the servers and gather outside for a short ceremony to bury in the soil at the front of the church our time capsule. May the past become a fertile soil for the future represented by the flower plant. Afterwards everyone is invited to our pastoral center hall for light refreshments.
